Christmas in July!

Fungicide will be in full swing in just a matter of days. If you haven't already considered doing this application now is the time. Other than the added bushels you can see, there are additional health benefits for your crop to go along with it.

Some of these include:

  • Increased respiration for the plant. This is especially crucial through these HOT temperatures. Give your plant a good nights rest.

  • Stalk strength. Fungicide will keep your plants intact all season long.

  • Increased N in plant tissues. By keeping your plants energy level low you will promote an extended grain fill period.

I have included a chart I feel is worth while and useful if you would like additional information on fungicide efficacy. This is a great resource for you to see just how effective each product is on specific diseases.

Insects are here! We have seen several insects in fields as well. Keep in mind insects can work quickly and efficiently destructing your crops. If already flying, it's worth it to throw in the insecticide.

Japanese beetles are in full swing, about the same time as last year. This is their first generation. Keep in mind if the silks are clipped more than half way or there are 3 or more beetles on the silks and pollination is less than 50% completed you will want to address the issue. We are over halfway complete with this crop, don't give up on it now. Make informed decisions to give you the best end result.

While we haven't seen the pressure from thistle caterpillars like we did in 2019 they are still out and about and we will continue to monitor the situation as the season goes forward. Below is a chart that shows how to monitor how much damage is in your leaves. Looks can be deceiving, keep that in mind.

As always, thank you for your investment in Windy Ridge Ag. We appreciate each and every one of you. If you have further questions about getting your fields set up for fungicide give me a call.
